OPEN LETTER TO GOV JAN BREWER

Dear Gov. Brewer:

I am Dr. Lynn Knuth of Mesa.  I'm a woman who went back to (Chiropractic) college at 42.  I worked hard for a profession I believed in.  I came to Arizona because for all appearances, people truly seemed to interested in a healthy life, and the climate certainly lent itself to many outdoor activities for all ages.

I opened a chiropractic clinic in Mesa, and soon found out what was NOT taught in Chiropractic college and that the insurance industry is unfair not only to patients but doctors as well.  Before electronic billing was instituted, you could expect to send in your paper claims and then wait to see which dates of service were arbitrarily NOT paid for.  You then began the process of re-sending and re-sending until they WERE paid.

Of course any business wants to be successful, including the insurance industry, but they clearly have been one of the MOST successful industries in the United States.    Now the services that patients once got have been severely curtailed, all while they still pay the same insurance fees.  The doctors are told they can provide physiotherapy, but insurance will not pay them for it.  The $44 that we get for just an adjustment means that we all have to seriously consider whether we can keep our doors open.

I can honestly say that I chose this profession to help people and to make a good life for myself.  I would imagine that is exactly why you went into public service.

So....the question I ask you is why you are ignoring this problem?  I doesn't even matter to me that your husband is a Chiropractor.  This comes down to one thing.  ARE YOU DOING THE RIGHT THING FOR YOUR PEOPLE by preventing people from having access to safe natural Chiropractic Care?  Do you care that they're paying premium prices for next to nothing just to line the pockets of BCBS?

From what I can see the laws are pretty clear on this issue.  You've commented that you're not familiar with the issue.  Don't you think it's time you ARE familiar with the issue that will affect thousands healthcare?

I've always been impressed with your commitment and dedication to Arizonans.  I don't want you to be on MY side, but on the side of your constituents.  Don't put me in the position of closing my doors and leaving patients who get great results with Chiropractic care.

Thank you for your time.

Lynn Knuth DC
